Lifestyle

How do I open a bank account?

You will need a letter from the College in order to open a bank account. We will give you this letter during the Induction and Registration Programme.

Where can I buy a mobile phone?

We will give you a free SIM card for your mobile phone during the Induction and Registration Programme. This will give you a phone number and access to a network, but you will still need to pay for credit to use the phone.

How do I register with the police?

Registration with the police takes place during the Induction and Registration Programme. If you miss induction the Student Services Office will provide you with full details on how to register.

How do I register with a doctor?

It is essential that you register with a local doctor. We will help you to arrange this during the Induction and Registration Programme. You will be able to register, free of charge, at the health centre on campus.

Does the College arrange time off to observe festivals like Eid and Chinese New Year?

Our programmes require a very high level of academic commitment all year round in order to ensure your successful progression. We therefore ask you to attend classes during these festivals.

Where can I practise my faith?

Liverpool is a large, multicultural city with many places to worship. The Student Services Office will be able to advise you where the closest one is to your hall of residence or the College.

What extra curricular activities are available at College?

You will have full access to a wide range of societies and clubs available at the University of Liverpool. The College also arranges social events throughout your study period. Typically, this would include city tours, ice-skating, ten-pin bowling and visits to other cities in the UK.

What are the arrangements for disabled students?

If you have a disability, or chronic medical or mental health condition, please tell us about it on your application form. This will help you understand the support we can offer and help us plan for your arrival more effectively.

Accommodation

Will I have to share my room?

No. There is a good choice of accommodation available, but you will always have a single room. Sometimes rooms also have their own private bathroom (ensuite).

Do I have to cook my own meals?

Yes. Cooking with friends can be one of the most fun things about living in Halls of Residence and is much cheaper than eating in restaurants all the time. There are lots of shops near the halls where you can buy food.

Work opportunities in the UK

Can I work during my studies?

Yes. As a full time student in the UK, you are allowed to work for up to 20 hours a week during the term. However, we recommend that you do not work more than 15 hours per week. Remember, your studies are your priority.

Can I stay in the UK after I finish my university course?

You should look at the Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) scheme if you have obtained a UK degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma. This replaced the International Graduates Scheme on 30 June 2008.
