About the University
Founded in 1881, the University of Liverpool was one of the first civic (city) universities in the UK. The University grew quickly and the famous Victoria Building – the building that gave rise to the term ‘redbrick university’ – was opened in 1892.
Today, the University offers over 300 degrees at undergraduate level, over 100 degrees at Masters level and opportunities for research in 54 broad subject areas. Around 15,000 full-time students are registered at the University, approximately 2,500 of whom are from outside the UK.
