You will study in one of the UK’s most vibrant cities. The city of Liverpool is famous the world over for its music, its sport and its culture. By coming to study here, you will experience its buzz and its warm welcome at first hand.
Living the Liverpool experience
You will find Liverpool to be a welcoming, multicultural and vibrant place to live in, with something for everyone. What is more, there are around 50,000 students living and studying in Liverpool, making it a truly student-friendly city.
The city is compact, and the University campus is just a ten minute walk from the heart of the city. Whatever you are interested in, the city of Liverpool has something for you.
There are many museums, theatres and galleries, while the city centre offers a great variety of shopping outlets from independent stalls to malls with designer stores.
Culture
Liverpool’s recognition as European Capital of Culture 2008 confirmed it as one of the most vibrant, life-affirming and creative cities in the UK. It has more museums, theatres and galleries than anywhere else in the UK outside London.
Music
The Beatles may be Liverpool’s most famous sons, but the city now has a reputation as a centre of musical excellence and originality. You will have the chance to visit some of the many intimate gig venues in the city, or go to see an internationally famous act perform in one of the larger venues.
Sport
You will find that sport, along with music, is the beating heart of this city. Liverpool is football-mad, but many other sporting events take place here too, such as the Grand National horse race (the world’s most-watched sporting event).
Cosmopolitan
Liverpool has the oldest Chinese community in Europe and also hosts communities from Africa, Asia and elsewhere in Europe. This means that international foods are readily available and the city has a cosmopolitan feel.
Taking time out
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Sefton Park – complete with a beautifully refurbished Palm House – is a great place to escape to. The nature reserves and sand dunes along the coast at Formby are just half an hour away. Excellent train links also mean that the national parks of the Lake District, Peak District and Snowdonia can be easily reached for a real taste of the British countryside.
Exploring the country
The UK is a relatively small country and you will have the chance to explore it on your own or with friends. London is just over two hours away by train, or five and a quarter hours by coach. You can also take a ferry directly from Liverpool to the Isle of Man or the Republic of Ireland.
